Day 60 - Part B Lucerne
Friday 27th August
Mark Twain called this lion carved on a small cliff in the centre of Lucerne the saddest rock sculpture he had ever seen.
It's actually a dying lion (you can see the broken spear in its side) and it represents the loyalty and bravery of the 600 Swiss Guards who lost their lives defending the French King during the revolution.
I have to agree with Mark Twain, the face of the dying lion is incredibly moving.
